Hotel History

The construction of the first part of the building started a embroidered tassel maker from Budapest, at the time of the Second World War. The construction was completed in 1946 and shortly thereafter the building was nationalized. Following the nationalization it operated as a holiday resort firstly in the management of the Interior Ministry later of the National Council of Trade Unions.

In the seventies, new parts were added to the building where - in addition to the hotel rooms - a new kitchen, a dining room and a 80-person community room took place. Thus, a total of 72 rooms with 170 beds were available for the prescribed guests. Due to high demand, not much later, 12  wooden apartments - with two rooms and bathroom - were built in the park.

The hotel operated mainly from governmental funds and the utilization was appropriate until the 1990s. After the regime change the state and various trade union confederations established the Hungarian Recreation Foundation, which took over the management of all the holiday resort of the National Council of Trade. The Foundation sold the Bakony Hotel by tender in 1997, the new owner was the Kult-Turist travel agency.

The new owner took over a neglected and in all aspect dysfunctional institution. The long-term visions confirmed, that to operate the Hotel at high level and efficient a full rebuild and improvement of the quality of the services are needed. The reconstruction took place in two phases, between January 1999 and April 2000. As a result of the reconstructions the Hotel got a new image.

The capacity of the Hotel was somewhat reduced, but it has undergone significant qualitative changes. The original 72 rooms were developed into 50 comfortable rooms with bathroom, mini-bar, television, phone and pine furniture.  Two 40m2 and one 80 m2 conference rooms also were established.
